OMB completes review of OSHA recording rule

Washington – The Office of Management and Budget has completed its review of an OSHA recordkeeping and reporting regulation, paving the way for the agency to publish a final rule.

The final rule would do two things:

  • Update OSHA’s industry classification system to the newer, more broadly used North American Industry Classification System
  • Revise employers’ reporting obligations regarding worker hospitalizations, and add the requirement to report all workplace amputations

OMB’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs reviewed the final rule from Feb. 19 to Sept. 3. Reviews are limited to 90 days, but can be extended.

OSHA originally planned to take final action on the rulemaking last June. An agency representative did not immediately respond to requests for comment on when the final rule is expected to be published.
